On the first floor where wine is sold in the gift shop, you can find other Iwamizawa specialty products, as well as souvenirs. Of course, you can sample the wines too! In the building next to the winery, soft serve ice cream is sold. Hours are between late April and early November, the same as the growing season for the grapes.
During the winter we are closed, but open again in spring.

As far as the degree of latitude is concerned, wine can be made even further north.
However, wine-making is not seen very often in northern snow country where the snowpack reaches well over two meters.
We grow grapes during a very short season, between late spring and early winter, putting all of our passion and dedication into creating a fine wine for that year.
We harvest the grapes that have endured the harsh weather, and carefully ferment them during the cold season.
Wine-making in snow country requires a lot of time and effort. However, this allows for the terroir, or the elements of nature here in Iwamizawa to melt into the wine.

Housui Winery
President
Kurauchi Tekemi
We were conceived in 2002, when the Iwamizawa Grape Promotion Association was established.
We are the first winery to be built in the beautiful scenic area of Hosui, which was also the location for the movie in 2014, A Drop of the Grapevine.
The artsy looking winery and store with red gable roof, made from used materials, and the beautiful vineyards that spread as far as you can see, give one the feeling of being in the South of France. We started by growing Kerner and Lemberger grapes in the fields in front of the winery, then later added Chardonay, Pignot Gnoir, which now cover an area of 9 hectares. We make the "RICCA"series made with our company's own grapes, as well as the "Yukino Keifu" series, which was conceived from the idea of creating a high class brand.
Although we still do not have a large production of wines as far as numbers are concerned, we work very hard to make fine wines by delaying harvest, or changing the methods of fermentation.
We also carry limited editions of wines that are only available in our store, as well as delicious soft serve ice cream that is topped with grape sauce made from our very own grapes.
We look forward to serving you soon!
